File Me Up

Days are blending together and going by at lightning speed! Half of June is over already! We were really hoping to be on the road and selling treats by now but... there's always set backs and things you don't account for. 

I have been finding time between it all to get a few little projects done. Like... this cute little filing cabinet I found at a thrift store for $5.99. All it needed was a little paint to bring it from looking drab and dingy to bright and chipper (and ready for business paperwork filing, yay!...).

I used a little roller to paint a few coats of white paint and two simple coats of pink (Dazzleberry, Valspar I think) on the sides for a little glimpse of color on the drawers. 

Maybe down the road I might want to replace the handles because they're kinda boring, but they're not too offensive for now. I'm not sure how the paint will hold up because of the particleboard surface of the cabinet but it'll work for now. There's always touch up paint...

Thrift Store Find: $10 Campaign Nightstand

While cruising one of my favorite thrift stores of the area, Value Village, Mom and I stumbled on an adorable treasure. An adorable $10 treasure. We don't need another nightstand but for only $10, how could we pass it up? It's cute, sturdy, cheap and has potential. 

It really wasn't a question of if we were going to buy it but more like a "who is going to buy it?"

I still love my Ikea Rast nightstands so I told Mom that she should get it. She has an Ikea Malm one now, I believe. I do like Ikea a lot but sometimes you need something with a little character. 

And this campaign nightstand has some character. She told me that I can fix it up any way I wanted to. Despite getting a few ideas off of Pinterest, I haven't decided what is best for this piece. 

I thought about painting it since the finish on the drawers is so scratchy. There were some wonderful examples around the web of pretty colors and finishes.

I really love the way this wood looks and I've been contemplating just leaving it unpainted and restoring the wood to its former glory.

It's not as if the wood of the nightstand is that amazingly beautiful that it would be shameful to paint but maybe it could be re-stained to look better? 

We'll see what I can come up with. 

Vintage Creep Show

Last week my brother took me along with him to go to the Fremont Vintage Mall and it had some pretty cool stuff in it. Unlike a lot of antique stores that have things that border on grandma-like antiquities, this store had a lot of things mainly from the 1950's and up. 

Strangely, I came out of the store with pictures of mostly creepy things. Isn't that the best part of going to places like this?

I couldn't even garner a guess at what this decapitated plaster baby head would be for. The tag hanging from its mouth almost seems as if it was caught by accident on someone's fishing trip.

Who. Would. Want. This? I can't even explain why someone would want to own some malicious-looking unibrow acne-freckle man mug. 

"Honey? What's on tonight?" 

"Oh, you know... my worst nightmare."

And who wouldn't want a toothless clown with a nesting bird on his head giving them the side eye while walking down a dimly lit hallway? I wonder if he has any balloons? 

A soulless green child stands next to a splotchy woman with a huge leg-growth. Perfect for my bedroom!

The sad clown hobo just doesn't know his own strength and mourns the loss of the clown he killed that is now resting at his feet.

When I first saw this picture I thought it was completely terrifying. 

Then, while sorting through albums my brother came across this and we realized it was a rendition of the album cover. Still. Completely blood-curdling. Hard pass.

This artwork was creepy yet morbidly awesome. It reminded me of a card game Russ introduced to me called Gloom. It has the same type of artwork... I'll have to look up the artist to see if they are both done by the same one. 

It's a card game in which you play a family and the object of the game is to make your family as miserable as possible (and ultimately kill them off) while you make the opposing players families as happy as possible. It's really fun because you have to weave a story around the events of the cards (example: "[person's name] was attacked by mice" or "[persons name] was charmed by ducks."). It's a pretty funny game!

And here's some cool things I saw:

This picture was marked for $75... because it was the end of the month I offered $50 and got to take it home! I was drawn to it for some reason and think it's got a cool dystopian vibe to it... I plan to mess with the frame a little to change up the color but I love this!

I think this table was $250 but I thought it had a very interesting and pretty top. 

They had tons of neat things to be framed like these vintage children's cards. They had flashcards and other game cards that would've been really cute framed for a kids room... I almost bought the kitten one for me though.

Russ would have loved this vintage Marvel card because Doctor Doom is his favorite!

I took this picture to show Russ what kind of display they had going- he would have enjoyed weeding through there.

It was a fun trip to the vintage mall and I plan to go back soon! Brayt found a large amount of vinyls he wanted so it was a successful shopping day!

When I Go To The Thrift Store

This weekend I went into one antique mall and two thrift stores... and the Seattle Street Food Festival and Pike Place. It was a long day!

This clown picture will hijack all of your nightmares for the low price of $150.

These figurines were dubbed "noodle cats."

Something I haven't seen at a thrift/antique store yet: Nazi paraphernalia. Creepy yet interesting.

This mirror was pretty cool and would have been lovely painted something more interesting than a blah brown. 

This clock is awesome, isn't it?!

I thought this clock was cute too along with the horseshoes. 

Mom's quote about these shoes, "They're not bad. You know, with the right outfit." There is nothing that could make these shoes look good. These make orthopedic shoes look stylish.

I think everyone needs a two-headed cat figurine, don't you? 

This original watercolor painting called out to me. It's a castle scene and was only $20. Reframed it could have looked even better. 

This item looks like it could have come off the set of Castaway.

This fabulous butler is standing by to help you with all of your fashion choices. 

And lastly, I found these brand new, tags still on, ottomans from Target at the Goodwill. They were only $25 too! I would have bought them but they wouldn't have fit in our couch area and I think Russ thinks ottomans are useless. Oh well, I was still startled to find them!

Out and About Browsing

It's been a while since I was able to bring you some cool browsing finds but truthfully, it's taken me a while to even find enough things noteworthy enough for a post! I don't know, the stores have been more miss than hit lately. 

Target usually hits the mark and did it again with these adorable metal chairs. I love them, even if they look a little uncomfortable. I don't know, I just see these little red ones around a rustic table in a cozy patio surrounded by plants. 

The green stools are cute too and would be an adorable pop of color in a white kitchen with gorgeous subway tile.

I loved these coasters! 

And these feathers encased in glass appealed to my love for teal/blue and green!

What a charming little side table, right? I love the color!

This isn't home related but I love this bike! I'm not usually a yellow person but it's so sunny and fun... I want it...

While at Macy's oogling the rest of Martha Stewart's kitchen collection, I saw these wonderful  little display dishes! They were a little pricey but they were drool-worthy. 

Homegoods is usually iffy for me, even the one in Virginia was sometimes a disappointment. But sometimes... there's things like this adorable clock...

...or this cuuuute globe with a painted banner and plane on it (DIY idea, anyone?) that makes it worth my time. 

Oh, and these cake stands that are inexpensive, cute and capable of being customized with a new ribbon of your choice. 

I was recently at an antique mall and saw travel stickers! I didn't see any one with any personal significance or I would have bought some to display but they were very interesting. 

Also, these old college banners were worth a look too. 

And look at this bed! It's one of those items that can be beautiful and creepy all at once.
