Contact Me

For a while now my medicine cabinet has been bugging me. I'm pretty sure that our bedroom and bathroom belonged to a young girl because of this on the door:

Eww.

I've contemplated painting the inside or something easier like contact paper. I could never come across any cool contact paper- it was always the same standard fare at Walmart, Target, or Fred Meyer and I wanted something pretty and stylish.

Enter: TJ Maxx. And I found some pretty contact paper which were two rolls for $5.99.

Much improved! I'm so glad I don't have to see that disgusting lipstick smudge (there were other, duller ones as well as if the girl had a marathon kissing sesh with the door).

I had a tiny bubble under the paper so I just quickly poked it with a pin to get the air out.

You can barely tell that I punctured the paper, huh?

Here's a little sneak peek of what I've been working on that I hope to share by Thursday or Friday (depending on how tired I am after this work week). It's coming out beautifully and I'm so excited to share!

Out and About Browsing

But before our segment, here's some adorable pictures of my babies.

I think this last picture would be adorable framed on my gallery wall that I plan to have in my house someday. Such a sweet Ian...

And now... here's some awesome things I've seen around shopping lately.

I would have loved to have gotten this really unique candle holder that looked like a suspension bridge, loved it! From what I've been seeing of the apartments and homes in Washington, I would have a fireplace and how great would this have looked on a mantle!

For some reason I thought this lamp was really cool and interesting. I guess because all my lamps I have in my house are either black, white, or brushed nickel.

This blue box was at Ross for $8 and reminded me of my white box I found in the clearance section at TJ Maxx. It was actually a pretty huge box for how cheap it was.

I thought this elephant statue was really adorable.

Bonsai! And not just a bonsai but  a flowery bonsai, so cute! I'd really like to have one in my home someday.

And is this some kind of trend now, huge and over-sized fruit? Just weird.

I thought these owl plate were so fun and adorable!

And... I didn't buy anything, haha.

Shopping Find: Target and TJ Maxx/Homegoods

I've always wanted magnetic words to play around with on the fridge. But, Mom always hated clutter on the fridge so... now I have my own fridge and I can put whatever I want to on it! Yeeah!

At Target they have had a lot of kitchy things like you'd find at ModCloth or Plasticland so I picked up these geeky magnets because Russ and I are both geeks (though, in different ways) and I thought they'd be fun to mess around with.

My mom is about the cringe when she sees the next photo....

So far, this is my favorite phrase courtesy of Russ. It makes me laugh about every time I see it.

And after lovingly eyeing this cake plate for a few months now, I finally bit the bullet and laid down the $12.99 for it (yes, I am so cheap that that is biting the bullet).

Woo hoo, gorgeous! TJ Maxx/Homegoods had a few more, maybe I'll gradually add to my collection. Who knows, this could be in my bakery window someday?

Out and About Browsing

I was out the other day and Target seems to be between home decor transitions and I've been to two different Targets in my area and there are some GREAT deals. I'm talking I-need-to-pry-myself-away-before-I-overspend deals.

I saw cute pillows, vases, clocks, floral accents, and pictures for around $5.98 each. There was even a lamp base that had been $49 marked down to $14! Isn't that crazy? Most of that stuff had been upwards of $20! To my extreme surprise (and my husband's) I did not buy one thing. I know, hard to believe right?!

It begs the question though, when you find such awesome deals on home decor clearance... how does Target make money on that stuff? I mean, every time I browse and there's something that I like I know I can just wait a few weeks and it'll be marked down because no one in their right mind would pay that kind of money for what you're getting.

But, I did see some awesome stuff that Target brought out for this season:

I actually really want this fish. I don't even know why but I love the flow-yness of the fins. And for $19.99, I might actually talk myself into pulling the trigger on this purchase (maybe I can hint Russ that I want this as an anniversary present?).

I loved the texture of these frames. They're very masculine looking and interesting.

I really love the industrial look of gears and now that I've spotted these, I'm actively waiting for them to end up in the clearance bin. I love these but would never spend $15 each on them (especially when not an hour before I saw marked-down gears at TJ Maxx for $10).

I also made a quick stop to TJ Maxx/Homegoods and found two noteworthy things. Not things that I want, mind you, but noteworthy as in... what the?

This beaut caught my eye and I was immediately repulsed. This sea life wreath reminded me of something that a whale would cough up that somehow made it to the shoreline. Real attractive.

And finally, this Abraham Lincoln statue. It appears innocent enough, right?

Upon further examination of this figure it shows that Lincoln's head has been hollowed out to collect pens on your desk. The insensitivity of such a thing couldn't escape me and forced me into a fit of giggles despite how awful this really was. I don't know whose idea it was to think that an assassinated president from a gunshot to the head would be the perfect candidate for a pen holder but, it's quite ridiculous.

Then Russ immediately wondered aloud, "Where's Kennedy?"

Yeah, we have a dark kind of humor.
